So great that Mindy was finally on! I am glad they talked about the bloopers from the Mindy Project, because they were almost funnier than the actual episode. (Almost.) That was the one little bright spot during that sad 9-month hiatus (Colbert’s Blue Period.)

I was also pleasantly surprised by Tituss Burgess. I liked that he said he thought Stephen should’ve played Bobby in Company, I thought the same thing! Anyways, Tituss has amazing energy. I hope he didn’t come across too strident with his “commencement speech,” but it IS a salient topic. Some of these LGBT laws banding about in southern state legislatures are alarming. And petty. And potentially dangerous.

Great show to end the week on! I loved the cold open with all three guests, and the “magic”!

I also was very happy to see Stephen and Mindy discuss Newfoundland - she should definitely go, it’s a wonderful place. In fact I took my little Disqus icon there.

The Ken Burns segment was really informative as well - amazing to think that Rachel Robinson is still around and that he was able to interview her on the legacy of her husband. Very inspiring.

Yes, the “magic” was lovely and fun! The bunny was cute. I sure hope they didn’t really eat her!

      • Roseha

The LS twitter feed said no bunnies were harmed, they’re not sure she even woke up!

        • Debbie

Wait… that was a real bunny? I thought it was a stuffed animal.

          :O

          • Vansen

You can see her blinking towards the end. She looks a little like she’s just woken up and is thinking “What the…?”

  • The opening meet-cute was such a great spoof on rom-coms. I loved it! Mindy was fabulous and it was great to see the bloopers from Stephen’s episode of “The Mindy Project.” Tituss Burgess was hilarious! It’s so cool that he saw Stephen in Company and Stephen saw him in Guys & Dolls. I thought they were about to sing, but then Tituss couldn’t remember the lyrics! He is so fantastic on “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.” If you haven’t seen it and you have Netflix, put it in your queue! It was created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, who also did “30 Rock.” It’s so strange and wonderful and funny. Tituss kills! I’m really looking forward to the second season.

I once tried to take voice lessons with a really good professor and she asked me to audition for her prior to agreeing to lessons with me. She then proceeded to consume a whole big mac super value meal during my audition! I’m pretty sure I was just interrupting her lunch.

  • Gina

More or less 🙂 After I finished my degree.

  • K.V. Lady

Oh, yes, I love seeing Stephen and Mindy together, and it is clear that they both deeply admire each other. They are so cute together…hope Evie isn’t worried!

  • K.V. Lady

    That’s for sure!

I thought this was a really strong episode. Cute opening; a dash of pop culture with Rogue One, followed by some pointed politics in The Road to the White House; lively celebrity interviews (touching on issues of social justice); closing with a fantastic, thought-provoking interview on American history and race relations. For me, the structure, pacing and content of this episode really hit the mark.

I found the interview with Ken Burns very compelling, and he spoke with great eloquence and clarity. I especially liked his comment about the US needing to have a “courageous conversation about race”, and I appreciate LSSC making space for discussions like these.

I also like that the show is starting to mention more band members by name, so I can stop thinking of them as “the guy with the ‘stache”, “the guy with the hat”, “the other guy with the hat”. Louis does have a lovely voice.

And was that cauliflower next to the dip? I didn’t know that was a thing…

    • Gina

We need more Louis singing on the Late Show! All of the Stay Human people seem like total sweethearts. Sometimes musicians can be kind of pretentious, but these guys (and Grace) are total beasts on their instruments -only like people you would want to actually hang out with.
