Part of my job is to do trainings about the myths that surround certain holidays. So I must admit Stephen’s bit about Thanksgiving made me swoon a little. The discussion with Siddhartha Mukherjee about the history of cancer was also pretty fascinating, and strangely “light”, in a macabre sort of way. GMH for the future, that’s for sure!

Quotables:

My personal favorite:

“A recent study claims women think about sex ten times a day. But I don’t buy it. My show is only on four times a day.” ♥

Re. Black Friday:

“There’s a great deal on a Kindle Fire! That would make a great coaster for my iPad.”

“We are once again spending money we don’t have on things we don’t need to give to people we don’t like. U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! Oh yeah, that was loud enough for Santa to hear you at the North Po

le!”

“The point is, you gotta get your gifts by any means necessary. But it is the holiday season, celebrating Jesus the Prince of Peace, so please use nonlethal force only: Pepper spray, tear gas, bean bag bullets, and tasers, all of which I believe are available at Wal-Mart.”

From Tip/Wag:

(In which Obama gets a wag for neglecting to thank God in his Thanksgiving address, and Mitt Romney gets a tip for no apologies on his new out-of-context political ad.)

“Sir, have you forgotten the first Thanksgiving? When the Pilgrims, and the Indians, and the Jesus sat down together? And the Lord did turn the maize into corn, and lo, he gaveth the Indians smallpox for not believing in Him. And so I am calling on the President to commemorate Thanksgiving as a religious holiday. Commemorating the miracle of when Jesus rose from the couch for yet another slice of pie.”

And, because nothing captures the tip like a screen cap:

The “Who is John Galt?” bags at Lululemon Athletica:

“Tying yoga with rational egoism makes perfect sense. I mean who can forget Ayn Rand’s bestselling workout video Sweatin’ Away the Empathy?”

“Nation, with Lululemon’s endorsement it won’t be long until Ayn Rand’s philosophy makes its way into yoga classes across the country, and we start seeing new poses like ‘looking downward on others dog’, ‘government deregulating cobra’, and ‘bend over and take it from the rich’.”

We were also introduced to Stephen Colbert’s “Me Reporters”, modeled on CNN’s iReporters! Top story: The number 11 bus was late. Stephen addressed CNN thusly: “Hopefully this bold move will help you get rid of your remaining viewers.”
