  • The cold open was absolutely brilliant! The Flaming Lips performance rocked! We finally got to see it and it was well worth it. That was a spectacular tribute to Bowie.

I really like the changes they have done to the show! Seems like the new guy was a welcoming addition. I hope they keep having cold openings in various forms - great way to start the show. This cold opening was great. I’m very happy that the Colbert team keeps being a strong supporter of LGBT rights.

I loved so many things about this show: the Lincoln/Lee kiss, Butty McButtface, the “mouth trumpet,” the jokes about the name Middleditch, and especially the Paul Ryan interview, which reminded me so much of the “old Stephen Colbert,” in a good way. His improv skills were top notch with the references to ellipses and saying no in foreign languages.

That was a fun episode. The cold open was great: funny, subversive and purposeful. And I’m glad LSSC isn’t completely doing away with the standing monologues. I think some shows have phased these out, possibly because the host hasn’t been comfortable doing them, but I’ve always enjoyed seeing Colbert do these pieces (I’m not sure that the American Eagle Outfitters monologue would have worked so well from behind a desk). They might not be necessary every episode, but I like that they’re mixing up the format a little from day to day.
