I didn’t know Tom Hiddleston would make for such an entertaining guest. He reads classics in ancient Greek, does a southern accent, plays the spoons, and sings even! He and Stephen really hit it off. He will be on many more times I hope.

I believe Laura Benanti was on the test show that Sharilyn and I went to on Sept. 3. She is very charming, as you saw last night, but she was a lot funnier here than I recall. They also sang “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” or a song of that genre, and they harmonized well.

Jon was so funny at the top of the show. He really seems like a guy who just eats, sleeps and breathes music. I lost it when he asked Stephen “You can do that?!” When Stephen said he would go to his house and get him to the studio if he didn’t show up 🙂 Maybe Jon is a homebody 🙂

  • Tom Hiddleston was so charming in his interview. He had great chemistry with Stephen. I really enjoyed his spoon playing! I love when Stephen sings with a guest and they did a great job with “I Saw the Light.” It’s such a beautiful song.

I loved the strange and entertaining turn the banter between Stephen and Jon took as well, especially the end where Jon admits to losing track of time while immersed in music. It suddenly reached another level and became really funny as well.
I hope we see more of Sammy the polluted salmon! I guess we still don’t know who did his voice? He reminded me a little of Triumph - a very hostile sock-puppet, and some hilarious moments as he interacted with Stephen. I could see them using any excuse to bring him back.
I was kind of hoping for another desk segments, but both guest interviews were quite charming, so I could see why they went in that direction instead.

In the old days of TCR, they always used to show field pieces or something on return-to-shows day, as a way of easing back in. Loading up on the interviews might serve the same function 🙂

In NFZ days they used to have a really funny series of just suit reporTs! On the old show he used to wear more colors, so it was more interesting to talk about. On this show, he’s Mr. Monochromatic. I look forward to Hungry for Power Games because at least he throws a little color on.
