A hilarious and bizarre moment from last night’s show.

Although Stephen professed he was not feeling well, it wasn’t reflected in last night’s awesome Thursday night episode. I particularly liked both interviews, in that he let the guests kind of dictate the direction of the conversation: Olivia texted her Mom on the air, and T.J. Miller cracked an egg on his head and broke out his “Skeleton Hands.” It seems that Stephen is trying to relinquish control of the comedy and let the guests take over more, and having two comic actors helps. The Silicon Valley guys are so especially funny, in particular.

I also enjoyed Jon Batiste’s “tutorial” on playing the piano. It was a perfect melding of Stephen’s writers and Jon’s unique style. They actually had done this bit when I was at the taping on December 18th, but it was cut for time.

Also, apparently someone in the audience pointed out Stephen’s limited suit choices, as that became a running bit throughout the show. The audience loved the shout out. We all hope he diversifies his wardrobe as time goes on.

What did you think of the ep? Sound off and we’ll lots more later.

Great episode! Stephen’s comments about Alan Rickman were very touching. It was wonderful to see Olivia Munn (I loved her in Newsroom), and Jon Batiste’s segment was very funny! TJ Miller really had egg on his face though :)

Hope Stephen feels better soon !

Am I the only one who thought it a bit insensitive to go from a touching tribute to Alan Rickman onto Stephen’s petty BLT woes?

I think he was just trying to cover business, he has limited time to address a lot of things happening right now. Cut the guy some slack.

Actually I’ve read that raw potatoes can be poisonous so I hope Stephen didn’t swallow any of that potato he was chewing on during the “Martian” bit. I was thinking “That’ll really make you sick!” The “Revenant” bit with the toy bear was hilarious.
TJ Miller is one strange guy. I kind of like that Stephen brings the stand up guests over to the couch to talk rather than do a stand up (Jerry Seinfeld excepted) but then I’m not a major stand up comedy fan for the most part. The egg and skeleton hands bits were very weird. I thought that shows like this rehearsed the guest segments but it seemed that Stephen didn’t know what was coming either from Miller or from Olivia Munn and her texting to Mom. That did make the show more spontaneous and funny.
Glad to finally see the Jon Batiste teaching piano segment Gina! It was both funny and charming, well worth the wait.
    Hope Stephen feels better tonight.

I saw TJ Miller at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, and he was a delightfully odd duck there too. I like different and weird and funny people. I just liked that Stephen rolled with it more than anything else :) I was surprised when he dug into that potato, gosh I hope it won’t add to his health issues! :/

I’ve eaten raw potato before and lived to tell about it.

Oh, T.J. Miller, you do NOT try to upstage Stephen Colbert. You just don’t do that. Especially when you’re not as funny as him.
