This really connected: “The thing is, by showing up in each of these speeches, by turning the State of the Union into the State of the Trump, Donald proved he’s the loudest voice in the room, even when he is not in the room. And with both parties using their platforms to go after this man’s policies, last night Donald Trump did something President Obama could not: he brought the country together.”

  • Rita

That was a very TCR-ish monologue. Liked it! “The Great of the union” segment was funny and a little provocative. The way Colbert preformed it made me gitty! Though I’m starting to get sooo sick and tired of hearing about Trump. I know he’s the biggest story right now and can (unfortunately) not be ignored, but I wish they didn’t mention him in every episode. The interview with Giamatti was fun, I especially liked it when Stephen forgot that Billions hasn’t premiered yet and that he was sent a copy of the show. Stephen laughed so much during that interview - I love to see that! I don’t really know what I feel about the Guerrilla girls, but I’m very happy that they were invited to the show. I know that the traditional Late night audience wants celebrities, but I hope that over time the show will attract people who normally wouldn’t watch late night. I have hope that there are enough people in America that will appreciate the show’s embrace of humanity :)

“I have hope that there are enough people in America that will appreciate the show’s embrace of humanity :)” Here, here!

“That was a very TCR-ish monologue.” Yes, it was, as was his bit on SOTU. I loved both segments!

Loved the end with Stephen on the bull, but almost as soon as he started on it, they cut, so it was like, What was the point? Maybe they thought they would have more time, I guess. I like Paul Giamatti a lot and that was a great interview. Stephen is showing a little more feistiness in the interviews, i.e. the manspreading bit. “You’re going all NCIS on me?” :-)

    • Roseha

Well, Stephen said even on Wed. that he wasn’t feeling well, and I imagine taking a chance on the mechanical bull might not have seemed like a good idea at the time. That’s probably why he just did a little of it, and slowly, would be my guess.

I loved that Jon had a cowboy hat on, apparently for the occasion. “Cowboy Jazz Man!”

  • K.V. Lady

The Big Furry Hat will always be funny! I like how “The Hat has spoken” is becoming the new “And that’s the W0RD!”

There are so many times when I find myself thinking about the “proclamations”. Tonight I was trying to divide 8 by 5 in my head and after a minute I was stymied and I said, “Math is too hard, from now on the answer is 7” 😀 Eventually I did figure it out, though.
