Hello! I liked the black suit, a nice change of pace. It turned out to be a very spiritual episode, with Jane Lynch talking about guardian angels and that wacky Warlock tarot-card reading bit. I loved Stephen struggling with the beard and the faux-mist fogging up his prompter.

I wonder if the presence of Brian Stack has anything to do with segments like the Warlock one, it has a few notes of “In the Year 2000” a la Conan wafting from it. I like it though, especially the prediction that Chris Christie will be managing a bowling alley in his future. Ah, one can hope. :)

You go into the El Chapo clip expecting him to resemble Esteban Colberto, and instead you get whatever the hell that was. Not funny at all

Why is it that you hide yourself? For everybody else here you can press on their names and see their comment history. But not you…

        Because I don’t have a Disqus account.

Did you see anything you liked in last night’s the episode?

    • Katt

Yeah, it was a bit of a miss for me to I’d liked the idea, but I think they could have done a lot more with it.

I thought this ep was very enjoyable myself, and I liked that the two comic segments were actually connected which is the first time I remember Stephen doing that in Late Show (though maybe he has and I’ve forgotten?) anyway I kind of doubt he can bring back Estaban since he’s made a break from the old show, but anyway I was fine with the similar clip he did. My favorite part was the Warlock segment, though, with the audience breaking out in “Warlock Warlock” and the Chris Christie line - line of the night for those who live in the Tristate area and are familiar with the scandal reference.

The interview with Jane Lynch was a lot of fun as well, I wish Stephen could talk with someone from Second City every night. It was both relaxed and entertaining.

I loved Jane Lynch as I’ve been a fan of her since Glee, and I loved the authenticity of her friendship with Stephen. The two of them have very similar comic styles: they both have a history of playing characters that are totally f***ed up but you can’t help but love them anyway (Amy, Sue Sylvester, Mr. Noblet, and of course, “Stephen Colbert”). I thought the part where they talked about guardian angels was really sweet and touching. I always like to see famous people talk about their faith. Too bad he didn’t have a “Big Questions With Bigger Stars” segment with her, that would have been funny!

I also loved the part where he pretended to be America’s Warlock. I couldn’t stop laughing when he put the beard on! Perfect example of how he uses costumes to enhance the comedy. All in all, it was a great, funny, joyful episode…one of my favorites in a long time. Stephen is the best!

Also what a ROCKIN’ Bowie tribute! The best I’ve so far. Great how the Humans jumped in at the end.

Edit: The lead singer of EL VY looks like a younger version of George Sanders. Just sayin’.
