Normally, my husband doesn’t watch the show with me. He likes Stephen enough, but like the Highlander, there can only be one obsessive Colbert fan in the house. Last night he decided to join me, and I asked him why. “Because [the show] makes you happy,” he said. He always tunes into the really notable episodes, and this one was for sure. We had the triumphant return of Jon Stewart to the Colbert landscape, a stunt filled extravaganza with Bruce Willis (who, at 60, is looking amazing!), Stephen’s hilarious Confessions segment, and finally, my favorite, Stephen teaching us all about the metaphors in Moby Dick while being blasted on a roller coaster. For the post-coaster hair alone, that’s enough entertainment right there.

I will be putting up an episode guide for you shortly, but let us know your thoughts on the show in the comments!

Monologue

Be sure to tweet your Congressmen #worstresponders to support the extension of the Zadroga Act!

Jon has made it a personal mission to see 9/11 first responders suffering from horrible work-related illnesses properly compensated.

Stephen’s Midnight Confessions II

Stephen requests absolution, for transgressions like eating a pizza with tic tacs on it. Gross!

Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis and Stephen get into it during the interview, which leads to Stephen’s stuntman getting pummeled.

Stephen Gets a “Moby Dick” Lesson on a Rollercoaster

Stephen busts out the awesome to talk about the relevant themes in the classic Moby Dick with renowned classics scholar Andrew Delbanco. The conversation was precipitated by the release of a new Ron Howard film, In the Heart of the Sea, upon which the story of Moby Dick is based. To make the interview exciting for a “network-TV audience,” Mr. C proposes to hold said interview on the frightening-looking Six Flags roller coaster, “Nitro.”

Lizzo - “Ain’t I”

Hip hop artist Lizzo and a posse of hot chicks shows up to perform “Ain’t I” (a woman.) Beautiful and fierce, she gave the correct reaction after finishing her performance on The Late Show by jumping up and down and giving Stephen a bear hug. She and her ladies look beautiful.

It was so wonderful to see Jon and Stephen together again! The dynamics between the two are as hilarious as ever, as was Jon’s Donald Trump impression. The eagle bit was also hilarious. As if that wasn’t enough, then Stephen did another hilarious Confession segment! And then there was the fight scene! So many laughs, and just in the first half! I went to bed after the fight scene but I DVR’d the entire episode and will watch the rest later.

Watching the rest right now. “Moby Dickhead” Ha ha ha!
If only my 11th grade English teacher had made Moby Dick as much fun as Stephen did! I wish she could have taken us all to Six Flags.
The rap song was a nice way to close the show: great to see women of all sizes looking confident and being sexy. And of course I loved how she gave Stephen a huge hug at the end, which was adorable.

Of course I loved seeing Jon Stewart’s surprise appearance. I imagine that they worked the bit out together and it was fun. But I would have liked to see Jon either have a chance to talk seriously for a few minutes before the Trump bit started or else come over to Stephen’s desk after the opening credits for a more serious discussion of the Zadroga Act even if it would have moved the Moby Dick segment to another day. Maybe it is because I am from the NY area and also feel strongly about this. I do love that Jon Stewart is dedicated to making this happen and that he is taking advantage of every platform he can to try to get the word out. Good luck with the vote!

Dee, I had a similar reaction to be honest, but on the bright side, the clip of Stephen and Jon was all over the internet the next day, and I do think it helped draw more attention to the Zadroga Act. The latest I have read is that it is expected to pass. And it was great to see Stephen and Jon reunite - Stephen was so great at keeping a straight face while all this was going on.
As far as the Moby Dick sketch itself was concerned it amused me, though it reminded me that I did read the novel in my spare time years after college (where I was an English major) - it took me a year to finish it though!

      • DeeCee

I agree, as it turns out it did get a great deal of buzz online so I guess it achieved the goal!

What a great episode! Loved it! Fun, heartwarming (Jon&Stephen!) and educational! All I love about Colbert :)

When the band starts playing and Jon hugs Stephen, you can hear Jon say “Like old times, baby.” Just makes me like those two even more, if that’s possible.

    • Gina

i couldn’t figure out what he said, thanks!

      Awwww! How sweet!
