Monologue
The Late Show is 43 episodes in and everyone is feeling good. This year, the Super Bowl is on CBS.
- I am proud to announce that I will be hosting a special episode of the Late Show, live right after Super Bowl 50!
- I would like a moment to thank CBS and since it’s football, I’d also like to thank Jesus.
Get ready for February 7th!
The Next Debate Will Feature Hillary, Bernie and Mumford & Sons (sp?)
- Them Dems are just down to three candidates, Hillary, Bernie, and…don’t tell me…and I know no one is gonna try. It’s a double M name. It is Murkin Muffly. It’s Mr. Mister. Mitt Momney. Mallomar! Whatever. He knows his name and that’s the important thing.
- This Saturday will be particularly special, because the CBS has partnered with the Twitter to bring in live reactions and questions.
The moderator for this Democratic Debate will be host of Face the Nation, John Dickerson. Joining Stephen via satellite from Des Moines, IA, is the man himself, John Dickerson.
Colbert: John, your co-host is Twitter. What does that mean for the debate on Saturday night?
Dickerson: Well, it’s gonna be we’ll be asking people for questions. They can send them in and we’ll maybe ask those questions to the candidates. And of course, we’ll be watching what people are saying while the actual debate is going on.
Colbert: How many of the millions of Twitter questions will you be able to ask during the two hour debate?
Dickerson: It depends. If they’re really good we’ll use them. If they’re not so good we’ll maybe use them afterwards.
Colbert: As kindling?
Interview — Jennifer Connolly
Colbert: Did you panhandle at all in character? Did you have to go out there?
Connolly: There’s one sequence in the beginning of the film [Shelter] where I’m in Astor Place. We got there very early in the morning and I kind of set up my thing and the crew was across the street with a long lens and I just sort of did my thing there and people - I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this. I don’t know if we’re allowed to do that, actually, but that’s what we did!
Colbert: Let’s say you can.
Connolly: Ok, let’s say you can! So, I was out there with the sign and people were coming up.
Colbert: Did they recognize you as Jennifer Connolly at all?
Connolly: Some people, after awhile, but not for a long time.
Colbert: Did they say, “I loved you in A Beautiful Mind. Here’s $5. Take care of yourself.”
What Is Art? Follow-Up: What Is Porn?
There was big news in the art world this week. Modigliani’s “Reclining Nude” sold at Christie’s for a record-breaking $170 million. It was shown on Bloomberg News, but “certain parts” had to be blurred out, if you know what I mean and I think you do! Earlier this year when a Picasso sold for a world record $180 million, news outlets also blurred that painting.
- But seeing journalist cover up fine art like this brings up all sorts of interesting questions, like what is art? Where do we draw the line between art and pornography? And what if that line looks like a butt crack?
- The rules get a little tricky when it comes to Michelangelo’s iconic statue of the David. Which, you’ll notice I am not showing you yet. That’s because I am allowed to display only a distant picture the David for - and this is absolutely true - a total of two seconds.
Interview — Judd Apatow
Colbert: You’re more than a writer and a producer, but you are something much more important to me, which is you’re a comedy fan from a young age and so was I. How old were you when you said to yourself, “I want to do that.”
Apatow: I think I was 10. I must have been a hostile child in some way.
Colbert: Really? Why do you mean “hostile?”
Apatow: I just liked that comedians were pissed off and they were flipping the bird at power.
The Internet - “Under Control”
The Internet makes their network television debut with the song “Under Control” from their album “Ego Death.”
