** Sorry for the delay in completing tonight’s episode guide. The one episode I was so looking forward to, and of course, our town has lost power due to bad weather. Hopefully, the power will be back on soon!

During those lonely 9 months leading up to the premiere, we all speculated and fantasized about what this show could possibly BE. Tonight is the closest it’s gotten to matching what was in my imagination. Using staff in a bit. A straight-up sketch piece complete with bad moustache. A discussion about creativity. Ending with a passionate guest who can take something boring and make it joyful. It ran the gamut of insightful and stupid, and did so organically and comfortably.

There wasn’t anything in this episode that will break the internet (Noblet/Jellineck fanfic communities notwithstanding). But if there are more episodes that so fully please me from top to bottom like this one did, I’ll be in heaven.

I absolutely agree that this is an example of an ideal show. I like the way it feels to you as a viewer when it’s over, because it’s like you had fun the whole time, and stayed engaged with the material (see I am pretending to be a comedy analyst here to keep up with you, Sharilyn!!)

You’re doing well, young grasshopper! 😉

This is definitely my favorite episode so far. What a fantastic show! I loved everything about it: the monologue, the desk segments, Paul Dinello!, the sketch with Daniel Craig, THE SKETCH WITH DANIEL CRAIG (how amazing was that?! I’m always reminded that Stephen could have had a great acting career), the interviews… Everything!

Wow, what a show! I loved it from the beginning to the end.
And, quite frankly, I’ve already re-watched the sketch with Daniel Craig an embarrassing amount of times.

    • Gina

Don’t be embarrassed! It’s meant to be enjoyed :) Not even responsibly. Just plain enjoyed.

First of all, Dr. Chang was so freaking off the Chang! Why couldn’t I have math teachers like her? I hated, hated math. Now I help my kids with it and I have to pretend like I have to like it, no comment. I would definitely eat, pray, and love it away as much as possible. Her repartee with Stephen was unbelievable. Sometimes Stephen has a hard time to “surrender” to the guest with the higher energy, but when he does, it makes for a great interaction.

I want the Late Show apron!!!!!

I was totes nervous about the Daniel Craig interview because of Katt’s fervent fandom of said subject, and she is my boss here on the Hub, but, she will be pleased methinks. First of all, let’s give it up for DC’s suit. The most dapper of all the male guests thus far. I loved the sketch, we really do love seeing Stephen act, especially with big stars. Stephen wearing the vest reminded me of the Troy/Loughton sketches from exit 57, just the comedy is a *lot* less dark. It went over great, so Stephen’s acting chops will live to see another day, thankfully.

And yay Paul Dinello (Pauly D! I am just making things up at this point.) We’ve missed seeing him up there too. I like how Paul and Stephen can go from Serious Comedy Writers to a couple of Big Silly Kids in about 30 seconds. I love how their friendship is the basis to everything else they do together professionally.

Also, why is Jeb campaigning at what seems to be a Costco? The last person I would want to see buying bulk lunch meat with my kids running circles around the cart is Bush III. Or really, any politician.

Gina, I want that Late Show apron, too! And once again we are so on the same wavelength, because Stephen’s vest in the Daniel Craig sketch reminded me of the Troy/Loughton sketch from ‘Exit 57!’

This is probably my favorite episode since the show started. The sketch with Daniel Craig was hilarious. Daniel Craig even broke character for a moment there. But, my favorite part was with Paul Dinello, I just love when the two of them are together. No matter what they talk about, it turns goofy before it reaches the end. But for some reason, I guess because they were themselves instead of playing characters, this bit just felt more special to me.

From the wonderful comments, it seems I am not alone in my love for this episode! It was phenomenal from beginning to end.

I adored the interview with Daniel Craig. His beautiful blue eyes are quite enchanting. The car rental sketch was amazing! I was grinning like a fool throughout the whole thing. I didn’t want it to end.

I really enjoyed the interview with Elizabeth Gilbert. She is wonderful. I liked the conversation that Elizabeth and Stephen had about creativity and fear. It was really inspiring to me.

Dr. Cheng was awesome! Like Gina said, why couldn’t I have a math teacher like her? I have struggled with math my whole life, so it is great to see someone like her trying the rid the world of math anxiety and doing it in such a fun way.

I was beyond thrilled to see Paul Dinello! I loved their “no homo” bit! “Tonight, I celebrate my love for you.” Seeing Paul and Stephen together warmed my heart.

This is definitely one of my all time favorite Late Show episodes thus far. Thank you to Stephen and staff for this incredible piece of comedy!

I also definitely liked what Elizabeth Gilbert said about creativity and “the permission slip” especially for women. Let’s just say it resonates with me now more than ever! ^^

Yes, it does resonate with you, my musical goddess!

I agree. What a great episode and exactly what I was looking for when LSSC began. To some extent each show develops based on Stephen’s rapport with the guests — this show was really helped by having three guests with a high energy level that matched Stephen’s. Loved watching Paul Dinello on stage with Stephen, Daniel Craig crack up during the skit, the rolling pin battle etc. As the show gets more episodes under its belt hopefully we’ll see this mix of fun, skits, great conversation, interesting guests more and more often.

    • Gina

I guess at the end of the day, not much has changed, we’re still talking about “Colbert’s Rapport.”.
