This was a fantastic Tuesday night episode! Stephen kicked the show off talking to Jon Batiste and Stay Human in his monologue. There has been a grisly tambourine death toll at The Late Show, all thanks to drummer Joe Saylor! Joe has become infamous for smashing his tambourines à la Pete Townshend and his guitars.
Stephen gave us a second installment of Digital Doo. The last one was back in October. The segment did not have graphics, so Stephen and the staff slapped electronic buttons onto a didgeridoo. And voilà - it’s Digital Doo time!
Once again, something has been named after Stephen. This time it’s an emoji called “the Colbert emoji,” due out in 2017.
Stephen is not some one faced pony. Just look at the wide variety of expressions he is capable of…
Adam Driver was the first guest and unlike his character on Girls, he is rather humble. Driver was in the Marines where he was nicknamed “Ears 2.” Apparently, someone else had even bigger ears! After the Marines, Driver went to Juilliard with some familiar faces - Jon Batiste and some of the members of Stay Human. Stephen and Driver discussed Driver’s new movie Midnight Special and their love of science fiction.
Next up was the very funny and quirky star of Crazy Ex-Girl, Rachel Bloom. She came running onto the stage in a gorgeous dress, which Stephen promptly complimented. Stephen asked Bloom how musicals work. What better way to show how they work than to perform! Stephen and Bloom sang a lovely song and they were both so animated and joyful. Stephen sung a song with Tom Hiddleston last night, so this was the second guest song-a-long this week. Let’s hope for more!
The Furry Hat was back! Here are some of Stephen’s proclamations, which are now and forever law. Follow them!
- Hence forth, if your car has a bumper sticker that says, “My child is an honor student” your child must wear a T-shirt that says, “My parent is insecure.”
- If you lose your keys and cannot find them in ten minutes, you must must move.
- Let it been written that if you name your genitals, you must introduce them at parties. “Alan, this is Captain Thunder. Captain Thunder, this is Alan.”
- If you drop your wedding ring down the drain, you are now married to the Sewer King.
- I hereby create a new airline ticket class called “Economy Feel Good Plus.” It’s a regular economy ticket, but on the way to your seat you get to punch someone in first class.
Lastly, Savages perform their song “Adore” with some amazing guitars riffs and a fabulous sound.
