SPECIAL GUESTS: Hans Beinholtz
SEGMENTS: Colbert Super PAC - Pushing the Limits | Anti-frack-attack | Tip/Wag - John Lennon & German Humor

Transformers, SuperPAC’s, Alka Seltzer’s, suicidal frackasaur’s and German Alpine Cheese.

Oh, and don’t forget to print out your own Talisman Terry’s Energy Adventure colouring book.

Apologies for the size of the screen caps, my computer decided to have a seizure last night. Micro-Stephen is the best I could do.

"I can also rake in millions of dollars for no apparent reason"

"So far you have donated somewhere between $100 and infinity"

"It's like giving the earth an Alka Seltzer, if the Alka Seltzer tore out your internal organs so oil companies can harvest your internal juices"

"Or one side of sonic tatter tots"

"What would you rather have in your kitchen. A boring old water faucet or a built-in Crème Brûlée maker?"

"The funniest energy extraction based children's character since Massy Coal's Mountain Top Mining Manny. Whose head was blown off so that they can get at his valuable brain coal"

"Driven mad by guilt Terry decides to take his own life by stepping into the shower, lighting a cigarette and letting the flammable frack water end his pain"

"We got a Beatle!!"

"They have a breakfast cheese named Oberammergauer Alpenkräuter Delikatessen Frühstückskäse! The funny part is, by the time you’re done saying it, they’ve invaded your country!”

"And tomorrow you are clutching the cadaver of your lover. Am I right ladies?"

Have any of our European Hubsters tried Oberammergauer Alpenkräuter Delikatessen Frühstückskäse?

It is so satisfying when Stephen and the TCR crew come back after a week off with such an absolutely solid episode. Every bit of this episode was fantastic, from the table of contents to the sign-off. Before I actually start talking about the show, this just needs to be stated: Stephen looked amazing tonight. AH. Mazing. *cue inappropriate squeal* Now that that’s settled…

I’m really happy Stephen did a segment on fracking, and the bit about the extra pages of the coloring book was brilliant with a capital B. The stand-up from Hans Beinholtz (or as I like to remember him, Cupcake German Guy) had me rolling with laughter, and I’m willing to bet Stephen was cracking up off camera as well. Also, kudos to Stephen for his masterful (and most likely practiced) pronunciation of that actual German breakfast cheese, though I won’t lie when I say part of me was hoping he’d mess it up so we’d get a character break. The interview with Michael Shermer was great, too.

I also want to give a shout-out to John Oliver for the segment he did tonight on TDS. I love love loved his commentary on the News of the World scandal.

Thought I’d die laughing from the German humor, loudly applauded the anti-fracking, and enjoyed the interview.

And oh yes: YEA JON OLIVER! That scandal is beyond the beyond, and he handled it beautifully. Loved the Mary Poppins umbrella, too!

I agree with lockhart43 what a strong start to the week! Ich liebe Stephen Colbert, besonders wenn er Deutsch spricht! ( My German is a little rusty).
I think Herr Beinholtz’s “Cadaver of Love” joke will stay with me forever.
    “Am I right, ladies?”

Having grown up in a VERY Christian/anti-evolution/the world is 6000 years old, etc. environment, it’s a relief to see that someone like Shermer exists. Of course it’s also a relief to know someone like Stephen exists, that he has faith but also has his head screwed on right and isn’t afraid to question, criticize, and disagree with the church. I don’t care where someone’s questioning leads them, whether they become an atheist or feel their faith is stronger for it, but for goodness sakes, question everything!

“I also want to give a shout-out to John Oliver for the segment he did tonight on TDS.”
Props to John O. just for the phrase schadenfreude-gasm alone.

@lockhart43 You’re a 100% right about John Oliver bit on TDS. It was funny & I thought you could really feel the boiling anger & disgust John has for the whole situation.
But don’t forget Assif Mandvi trenchant story into the truth about cats!

Actually, it would be a real “Sophie’s choice” for me to pick which segment I liked better. ;)

It never even occurred to me that they would have John Oliver do special commentary on the NotW scandal, even though it makes perfect sense that they did. When he tried to fly away with the black umbrella by climbing onto Jon’s desk in slow motion, I lost it. That was so, so hilarious!

And @colbaby: totally agreed. I loved how the audience laughed and cheered after he said that, too.

Their wasn’t anything on this show that I didn’t love! The fracking, (What the hell is Cuomo thinking! Oh yeah. Big business money.) the update on Colbert Superpac, (With that sort of obscene looking chart.) and the interview were all great.
But if I had to pick one segment it would be the German “comic.” He could have just stood there and stared and it would have been outstanding! But speaking?! Introducing the phrase “cadaver of love?!” It became a classic! :)

I have a feeling, based on the audience’s reaction after Stephen said the name of that German cheese, that it wasn’t the first time he’d tried saying it. I bet that took at least two takes.

I want to hug Johnny O. for “schadenfreude-gasm.” What a great word.
