It’s been a long and stressful past couple of weeks, but the Hub is finally back up and running.
First of all I want to start out by saying thank you to all of you who reached out to us asking if everything was okay with the Hub, your concern means a great deal to all of the Hub staff. And secondly, I want to apologise to everyone who has visited, or tried to visit the Hub, over the past few weeks and have received any one of a number of error messages. Although the technical difficulties experienced at the site were largely outside my control and were caused by our host, I still feel that I have let you all down in not being able to solve the problem sooner, and have failed in the Hub’s mission to bring you all of the latest Colbert news as soon as it breaks. I know this literally could not have happened at a worse time. But I can assure you that we have been keeping up-to-date with all that Stephen Colbert has been doing, and that we cannot wait to start sharing it all with you again, including a very special taping report. So stay tuned!
In the meantime, here is a break down of what happened to the Hub, the steps we have taken to over come the problems, and what it means for the future of the site.
In what I can only describe as being more stressful than trying to get giant panda’s to mate, getting the Hub back up and running has been one stress filled adventure. After many many hours of tech support help from the ever wonderfully patient Michael, and Jeffery and Christopher from Hostgator tech support, we have managed to iron out the errors caused by the recent WordPress update and get the site back up and running.
There may still be a few errors present, so please bear with us while we continue to check over the site and ensure that all errors, issues and anomalies are addressed. If you come across any problems on your travels around the Hub, please shoot me an email just in case we’re am not aware of that particular issue.
A big thank you to CNHelper for manning the Hub Dash and updating the site throughout our Hubpocolypse. Finally, thank you to everyone for their patience during this period. We have done our best to keep you up-to-date with the latest Colbert news through our social media accounts, but don’t fear we still have plenty of goodies to share with you over the next few days.
As you may recall, I addressed the technical difficulties plaguing the site in the last ‘Site Update’, and made mention of some exciting new upgrades coming to the Hub.
After much hard work and frustration, I am happy to role out our new site theme!! Finding a new theme that fits the needs of both the site and its users has been quit a challenge, but I feel that our new theme ‘Admired’ by Brad Thomas, is the perfect fit for our site.
The new site is offers more flexibility and customisable options than our previous theme, and best of all, eye candy is now brought to you in wide screen, with the new wider and more spacious page layout.
As you can imagine, there are still a few kinks that will need to be ironed out, so please bear with me as I work to find out which elements of the site are affected by the change, and work to find a solution to fix them. Over the coming weeks the site settles down I will tweaking and adding some new features, as well as re-doing the content accessible via the menus bar.
I hope with the new theme that I have been able to address all of the technical difficulties that users have been encountering. If you are still experiencing errors, please do let me know so that I can work to fix them. If you feel as though the site is lacking something that will make for a better user experience or better site in general please do feel free to contact me and let me know of your ideas, I would love to hear from you!!
You may have noticed that our post frequency has been has been down of late, and I do sincerely apologise for that. There are a few main reasons for this. Firstly, for the past five weeks I have been away studying in Greece, with a brief stop off in Paris and London – all of which are truly amazing places that I cannot wait to go back and visit. Due to my studies I have been unable to spend as much time working on the site as I have wanted to, nor have I been able to keep up with the awesome six degrees activities that have been going on, but I will be doing a catch up ‘Six Degrees’ post in the near future. Thankfully, our awesome Hub Staffers have all stepped up to help me out and keep things running smoothly while I have been gone. Did I mention that our Hub Staffers rock!?!
In honor of Stephen’s birthday today, May 13th, our staff at Colbert News Hub have added some new projects to our DonorsChoose Giving Page. What better way to commemorate our favorite host’s birthday than to give a man who has everything something that never goes out of style – a donation to his signature charity. We recognize that times are tough, and we promise not to hold “drives” more than twice a year. If you were thinking of sending Stephen something for his birthday, consider making a charitable donation to some of the projects highlighted on our giving page instead, as it will definitely make a lasting impact in the lives of some deserving kids. [Updated]
In lieu of the recent influx of musical guests, and Stephen’s delight at serenading us on a weekly basis, I am currently working on updating our Music Archives page.
My aim is to list all of Stephen’s musical performances, whether they be on ‘The Colbert Report’ or elsewhere … well except for ‘Stephen Sings in the Shower’ that is part of my private collection!!
Musical moments from ‘The Colbert Report’ will be listed in chronological with the episode number , original air date and year, link to the performance, song name and featured artist(s). Songs from other events will be listed in chronological order with the event name, original date, song name and featured artist(s). I will also be including an MP3 link and/or linking to a location where you can purchase the song or album, such as iTunes.
I would really appreciate it if you guys could help out by listing Stephen’s musical performances outside of ‘The Colbert Report’. It doesn’t matter if he only sings a few lines, it still counts!! We are after all fangirls and guys!! Also if you are in possession of audio to any of Stephen’s performances, please send me an email with an active link to the song(s). If you have the audio on your computer but no link, feel free to email it as an attachment and I will linkify it for you.
Finally, does anyone know where or if the Stephen Colbert Fanmix ‘Passionately from the Heart – Songs of Love and Opinion’ is still in existence somewhere out there on the interwebs? It has been a star on my iPod for many years, and it would be great if it could be added to the music archives. A huge kudos to the creator, whoever you may be!!
The wait you didn’t know you were waiting for is finally over!!
Have you ever been super excited to be attending a Colbert related, followed by a meet up with fellow members of the Colbert Nation after the show, only to realise you have no idea what they look like or how to contact them?
Well never fear, official “Hubster” merchandise is here!!
