‘The Colbert Report’ and ‘The Daily Show’ Win an American Comedy Award

Congratulations to ‘The Colbert Report’ and ‘The Daily Show’ who, in a tied vote, have won ‘American Comedy Award’ for “Late Night Talk Show”.

I can’t believe it’s a tie. I mean how big are the chances that two shows get exactly the same amount of votes? Wow! But if we get accepting speeches like that the can win together all the time …

That was so great … thanks for posting!

Nice avatar! Well, at least we got a joint Stephen and Jon appearance out of it. They are so cute together. Congratulations, guys?

        Thanks :)

We’ve been spoiled recently with all the J/S interaction. I for one love it!
And I totally forgot to congratulate (blame it on the surprise of seeing yet another J/S moment), so congratulations :)

Also, why can I reply to some comments but not to others?

Our “reply” feature allows you to respond to the initial comment, but not subsequent ones (if that makes sense.) We keep playing around with different plug ins, but recognize it’s not the perfectest (and yes, that is not a proper English word 😉

Ah, ok … thanks for clearing that up :)

Congratulations to TCR and TDS! Wow, I just relish any moment when Jon and Stephen interact with one another. That was a great bit!

Any chance someone could magic this video so that Australians can watch it?

This was fantastic and touching — especially as they’re parting ways professionally now. The Daily Show and The Colbert Report have always been, to my mind, a package: a great one-two satiric punch solidly aimed at all who deserve it. I think that in this last year, it’s wonderful that they won together. (And always fun to see them riff.)

Your words kind of hit me just now. It is weird that their partnership is going to be in the rearview mirror soon. One always just associated one with the other, and they’ve been working together since 1999. I hope Jon still comes on the Late Show and maybe they do some kind of bits together.

They’re parting ways only in the sense that Busboy isn’t producing Stephen’s show anymore, which is an arrangement we as viewers have never really been able to perceive on-air. That, and they won’t work for the same Viacom subsidiary.

As much as we’re accustomed to saying “the Daily Show and Colbert Report” in one breath, they are operationally two entirely different machines with only a passing knowledge of what happens in each other’s buildings.

What we as viewers *do* perceive is the professional relationship that exists outside of all that. The public-facing dynamic will change after the departure of Stephen’s character, but they aren’t getting a divorce. I think we’ll still see them together plenty.

THAT was wonderful. OOh, how great it is to have them together riffing off each others’ silliness. And BTW, why can’t the awards be functional like a chair. Don’t Universities give out Chairs???

Congrats, TCR and TDS!!!! You both deserve so much!!

Functional awards sound like a great idea. Or ones that come with donations to a charity of choice. I’d take a few flowers off the table centerpieces, take that money, & do some good. 😉

I am soooo glad that this video is up here. I loved that line about white males and “that’s the same list”. Good line! To be honest, though, I am kinda glad I didn’t have to sit through the whole show and I could just see this part. It was so great to see them together.
