Stephen Colbert on ‘The Lead with Jake Tapper’

“She’s my sister, and I’m willing to, you know, break the jewel of my own creation to try to do something for her,” Colbert said on CNN’s “The Lead.” “I’m not worried what it would do to me or my show to try to help her as myself, not as my character, and to help her as myself.”

“If people think that’s not the right thing for me to do, I don’t care,” Colbert said. “It’s my sister and I’m willing to help her.”

    I hope all of our SC-1 Hubsters voted for ECB today!!! Go all the way Lulu.

    This was a great interview, nice to see that Jake is a longstanding fanboy of Stephen’s. I liked the way he edited his piece, there was a lot of love in it, you could tell. I like when Tapper said, “I’m not doing a comedy show, ” and SC was like, “I’ll be the judge of that.” Zing!

    What an amazing little side story about Stephen negotiating his own show at the ’05 WHCD. Who would have thunk this media insider’s dinner might have so much impact on our friend’s career? The very next year he knocked it out the park and “step-functioned” his career (I am using Eric Schmidt’s algorithmic parlance here.)

    @CN Helper:

    I was thinking the same thing about that Dinner! The first year he goes, he gets his own show! The second year and he goes and makes himself a national figure sure to be remembered for all time as a great american satirist. I think just initially, one has to think how exciting it must have been for Stephen to go off on his own, but at the same time I sometimes forget how scary it must have been too. I remember a lot of people liked Stephen a lot and were looking forward to his show, but were also a bit doubtful it would last long. Jake Tapper was certainly not the only one! It’s amazing how they’ve carried it to new levels year after year.

    @Erika: I guess it all owes to the fact that Stephen is all kinds of heaps of awesome. The show just gave him the opportunity to vault to the highest heights. The way he has achieved his success and does the show night after night continues to inspire me after so many years.

    Jake Tapper said, “Cocked eyebrow” … can you hear all the fangirls falling over themselves laughing!

    Nice energy between the two but where were they filming? There was so much background noise! Good thing you apologized, Jake Tapper, for not believing in Stephen and his show more! He showed you!! BTW, you’re decent for calling yourself out on it though.

    Oh, do we all look forward to the first time Stephen mocks Lulu! For all siblings everywhere! Go for it! Lulu, taunt him and Stephen, grab it when it happens! Let’s show them how politics and satire and sibling love is really meant to happen.
