On “Oprah’s Next Chapter” this Sunday, September 30 (9-10 p.m. ET/PT), Oprah Winfrey travels to Charleston, South Carolina to visit with multi-Emmy Award-winning TV star Stephen Colbert for a rare interview with the man behind the alter ego seen on his popular late-night series “The Colbert Report.” In the candid conversation, he speaks about his close relationship with his beloved 91-year-old mother, discusses his friendship with TV host and comedian Jon Stewart and talks about the creation of his TV character.

Winfrey joins Colbert for laughs and sweet tea on the porch of one of his favorite places in the world — his in-laws’ 150-year-old home in Charleston — where he celebrated his wedding and spends Christmas with his family. The host of Comedy Central’s critically acclaimed series “The Colbert Report” offers a presidential prediction and why he created his own Super PAC. Later, his wife Evelyn joins them for her first interview and reveals that although she doesn’t allow his alter ego in the house, the “real” Colbert is one of the funniest, most romantic guys around.

  1. The video is blocked to all viewers outside the US. You may be able to watch it on the OWN website.

Will do my best to track down an international version.

TIP OF THE HAT! Thumb up +4

  2. I liked her question about whether his character has ever overstepped. Seems she’s smartly maintaining the separation between man and role.

  3. I watched Oprah’s Next Chapter last night hoping they were going to show a preview and I was so excited when they did. I think the interview looks like it’s going to be great, and I’m so looking forward to watching it.

  4. I sure hope they have repeat times too as I am not sure I can watch it at its regular show time.

“Intensely private” … “genius” … yes … an amazing human being … here’s hoping fame isn’t giving him an ulcer.

  5. Gahhh I’m so excited for this! Hurry up, September 30th, some of us have an adorable, out-of-character Stephen interview to watch!

TIP OF THE HAT! Thumb up +7

  6. I really really hope this is made available online for those of us who don’t have cable! I get all the shows through Hulu so I keep up with them, but these other appearances are harder to get a hold of!

TIP OF THE HAT! Thumb up +2

  7. “can you say the word ‘genius’ again?” hehehe.
I purposely watched for this on Sunday too Dentry! I can’t wait for the interview!!!!!

  8. Gah, I really hate how dramatic the voice over makes everything sound.

As much as I loathe Oprah, it’s great to see Stephen radiating such joy. I hope she doesn’t do a Barbara Walters on try to make Stephen turn on the water works.

I love that the in-laws have a ceiling fan on their veranda.

    • Ceiling fans are pretty common in verandas in the South. Hey man, it gets hot. Gotta love sitting on big ol’ verandas, on a porch swing, with a big glass of sweet tea.

  9. Cannot wait for this!! He’s just the most adorable creature and any interview with him is a priceless joy!
